The Law of Attraction

in Articles

How many times have you heard these quotes?

“Be careful what you wish for”

“Where your attention goes, your energy flows.”

“If you think you are going to lose, you will lose.”

Though they may not be referencing it, these people were talking about the universal Law of Attraction.

Simply put, the Law of Attraction is: what you think about – you create more of.

You can view this in spiritual terms, (“Ask and you shall receive”) or as a universal law of quantum physics. The principle is the same: Focus on something and you often get it – whether you want it or not.

I was thinking about a counseling client of mine. Many would say her life is great. She has a good job. She is in a doctoral program. She has the cutest puppy that is more like her child than her pet. But she never seems to get what she wants in life. School is too much work. She feels her bosses treat her unfairly. Week after week she shares her feelings of being unhappy and undervalued.

This reminded me of the times in my life where I felt like the victim. Especially when I didn’t have enough clients to pay the rent. Every prospect who called was like “grocery money” and I really felt desperate.

The more desperate I felt, the less prospects called and the less money I had. My whole focus was on what I didn’t have and then guess what? I ended up with more of it – poverty.

I think learning to focus on what you want and hope to have is a process for most of us.

Here are the steps:

1) Know where you are starting. In business, know your numbers. Know how many clients you have. Know how much money is coming in each month. Know your expenses.

2 ) Know what you don’t want. Maybe you don’t want to work with eating disorders. Or children. There may be certain times of the day that you don’t want to work. Be clear on what you really do not want in your life and your practice.

3) Be clear on what you do want. Imagine it. See it. Talk about it.

4) Clear out the resistance. Many people find that they can do the three steps mentioned above, but find that old beliefs, and naysayers in their lives keep them from really moving ahead. Do your own inner work to “clear the decks’ for your success.

I know that as I moved away from poverty consciousness and began to slowly implement these steps my practice started growing. This is one of the main reasons I love doing the work I do. As I help therapists to clear out the resistance and help them focus on what they want, magic seems to happen. Really!

Just take a peek inside my inbox:

“I have literally quadrupled my full-fee private pay clients this summer (during the traditional “slow” months!). I made more money in August, even with a 10-day vacation, than I did in any given month last spring. All the best to you, Casey, you ROCK!”
Sue Duroncelet, MFT

“Casey, since I started working with you, I have just about doubled my cash-paying client base. I am on my way to a totally non-managed care private practice!” Gary Robertson, MFT

A great friend and therapist, Donna, recommended a book to my last boot camp group which most of us read and enjoyed. It has been used by individuals, groups and churches to help people to get what they want. The book is called “Ask and it is Given” by Ester and Jerry Hicks.

I was recently reminded of the Law of Attraction when within one week I received 6 new prospect calls with 4 becoming new patients and 2 becoming referral sources. The attraction ingredient is that during that week and the previous week I was given the opportunity to process some personal trauma, past and present. This type of attraction has happened repeatedly when I am perfecting myself with classes, self-process work, &/or resourcing. We can only take others as far as we’ve gone is my motto. Here is my totally subjective and personal experience with law of attraction. I found that times when things weren’t going well was usually due to letting negativity sneak into my mind set. Then things just snow-balled down. When I am positive, I am attracted to positive up-beat people, and they to me.

I am working at a great site. I have the best supervision and great colleagues for case consultations. I got here by focusing on what criteria I knew would help me be successful in private practice, which was my ultimate goal. I then examined all possibilities and picked what I felt was best geared for my success and went for it. My supervisor hired me, even though she never intended on taking on an intern. She is also a university teacher in the MA clinical psych program. I wanted to learn the most I could…then, giving credit to law of attraction, another teacher joined the site (thank you Vondi). I am surrounded by positive competent people and feel truly blessed.

Hi all,

I first learned of the Law of Attraction when I took part in Casey’s ‘money boot camp’. What an amazing, and even life changing experience, that was for me. It helped me to discover and recognize some of my deep rooted beliefs about money-and about the importance of focusing my thoughts, energy, talk, time and money. It’s so important!

Another book/resource I’d recommend is by Joyce Meyer called Prepare to Prosper.

Casey,
I appreciate you calling our attention to the law of attraction. And, having said that, paying attention to the law of attraction is really a challenge for me.

I have great spans of time where I am totally focused on building my business and enjoying the creative energy that comes with that. These are the times when my phone rings a lot.

But then there are days, like today, when my energy is failing, or I am really distracted, and I have the thoughts, “I really need some new clients this week.” but I recognize that my energy and focus aren’t really on getting new clients – but more on getting through today.

I am finding your exercises helpful in keeping my focus – and I find that really encouraging. I am getting a little better at remembering what this is all about, and remembering it more frequently.

Cynthia

Casey,

I am so glad you brought attention to the Law of Attraction. I would love to recommend additional resources including the DVD “The Secret” as previously mentioned. Esther and Jerry Hicks have written several books including “The Law of Attraction”. Also “Attracting Perfect Customers” by Stacey Hall and Jan Brogniez. I highly recommend these resources…they can be the catalyst for attracting what you desire in life. We can co-create a new world of collaboration, cooperation and the life our hearts desire. OOOO I love the law of attraction but it has been somewhat haphazard and inconsistent in the previous years because even though I knew the law of attraction worked, I couldn’t always figure out why it worked sometimes and not others.

Then, I got my copy of The Secret (www.thesecret.tv) and now it’s becoming MUCH clearer. In the past month or so I have become extremely specific about what I want and I am focusing only on that. I also made a Beneficial Billboard with pictures of all my goals and I look at it daily.

In the past, this same technique has led to results FAR TOO NUMEROUS to count. I look forward to sharing the results as they unfold ;)
