What a privilege to have lunch with Cloe Madanes
18 years ago I was a starry-eyed grad student attending my first ever big-time therapist conference. I was very interested in learning as many types of therapy as I could. I particularly enjoyed Strategic Family Therapy and was excited to hear Cloe Madanes speak. She smiled at me as she walked by me in the hallway. I was not only starry-eyed, I was star-struck.
Well, things can change a lot in 18 years. Today I had the most delightful lunch with Cloe. I found out she has nine grandchildren and has just finished her seventh book: Relationship Breakthrough!
Cloe Madanes will be one of the speakers at our Therapist Leadership Virtual Conference (April 20 – 24, 2009) – she will be speaking on “The Secret Meaning of Money” – and how it is used in families for a variety of purposes beyond currency. I am sure you hear people in your offices all the time talking about money – especially in families. Cloe says the secret power of money binds families together in love, envy, compassion, and anger.
What have you seen in your office with people and money in their relationships? How does money impact relationships between parents and children? Between spouses? Between siblings? Please share.
